FormPost as a Formspree alternative
Formspree is one of the best-known form services. People looking for an alternative usually want their data to stay in Europe, or find the price too high. Here's how the two differ – including where Formspree is ahead.
In short
Formspree does more: JavaScript submission, file uploads, custom thank-you pages, many integrations. FormPost does less, but processes your data exclusively in Germany and costs considerably less on the paid plan.
If you need one of the features FormPost lacks, Formspree is the better choice.
The differences at a glance
| Feature | Formspree | FormPost |
|---|---|---|
| Provider | Formspree, Inc., USA | FormPost from Darmstadt, Germany |
| Data processing | According to its privacy policy, on infrastructure in the US | On servers in Germany (Hetzner), no transfers to countries outside the EU |

| File uploads | From the Personal plan | No |

Where Formspree is the better fit
- You want to submit forms with JavaScript, without a page change. FormPost can't do that.
- Your visitors should be able to attach files. FormPost doesn't accept files.
- You need your own thank-you page or ready-made integrations with other services. FormPost always shows its own confirmation page after submission; webhooks and the REST API are only on the Business plan.
- You need several forms for free. FormPost's free plan includes exactly one.
Where FormPost is different
- Submissions are stored on servers in Germany. Neither we nor our service providers transfer data to countries outside the EU.
- You conclude the data processing agreement in your account on every plan, including the free one.
- On Pro and Business, submissions can be encrypted so that only you can read them – not even we can.
- Pro costs 17,85 € a year including VAT.
- Submissions stay stored until you delete them – on the free plan too.
Switching from Formspree
You can keep your form almost unchanged. Replace the Formspree address in the action attribute with the address of your FormPost form. The hidden spam field is called _gotcha on both services.
If your form is submitted with JavaScript, for example via @formspree/react, switch it to a normal submission – or stay with Formspree.
